About
Thanks for visiting Book Takes. My name is John Steffen and I read about a book a fortnight. I think of this as a book diary kept in a highly flexible and customizable electronic format. It started in January of 2006 and I’ve been going strong since; copiously documenting each book I read. If you want some additional insights into my motivation, you can read my original About page. This whole process is a lot of fun and I look forward to keeping this updated until the day I die.
I use the Wordpress content management platform hosted by Media Temple Grid-Service and I’m very happy with both. My logo was designed by Erin at EMC Designs and I think it’s damn cool. I use the Thesis Theme with a bunch of modifications.
I use a handful or so of plug-ins, here they are:
- Akismet (comment spam killer)
- Bad Behaviour (link and bot spam killer)
- Contact Form 7 (contact forms)
- Google Sitemap Generator (sitemap creator)
- Feedburner Feedsmith (feed manager)
- Random Redirect (random post generator)
In general, keeping this blog has really heightened my appreciation of books and the written word. The web plays a big part in my enjoyment of books and besides this blog, I use a few web services. I use delicious to keep track of all of my book-related links and I keep my Shelfari bookshelf up to date with what I’m reading and planning to read. I’m also eventually going to comb my memory for every book I’ve read and get them on Shelfari…some day.
So check it out and leave comments. I would love to hear your take on the books I read or hear how you feel about my annual reading lists.
